Xeomin® for Upper Facial Lines: What to Know Before a Consultation
A patient-friendly introduction to Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA), including its FDA-approved aesthetic use, what a consultation covers, and important safety considerations.

What is Xeomin®?
Xeomin® is the brand name for incobotulinumtoxinA, a prescription medicine administered by injection. For aesthetic use in adults, its FDA-approved indication is the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe upper facial lines: frown lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet. It is a neuromodulator, meaning it temporarily affects signaling to selected muscles; it is not a dermal filler and does not add volume.
A thoughtful plan starts with facial movement
Lines can look different at rest and with expression. During a consultation, a qualified provider considers your facial anatomy, muscle movement, skin quality, medical history and aesthetic priorities. The goal is to discuss a plan that fits you—not to use the same placement or dose for every face.
What to expect at a Xeomin consultation
Your provider will review the areas you would like to discuss, explain the potential benefits and limitations, and ask about relevant health history, medicines and prior injectable treatments. You should have time to ask about the treatment plan, alternatives, expected timing, aftercare and possible side effects before deciding whether to proceed.
Why product-specific planning matters
Xeomin units are specific to the Xeomin product and cannot be compared with or converted to units of other botulinum toxin products. If you have received a neuromodulator before, share the product name, treatment areas and timing with your provider. This helps support an individualized discussion about whether Xeomin is appropriate for you.
Timing and results
Xeomin is intended to provide a temporary improvement in the appearance of eligible upper facial lines. The visible response, onset and duration can differ from person to person. Your provider can explain a reasonable follow-up plan for your anatomy and goals; outcomes are not guaranteed.
Safety matters
Xeomin has a boxed warning that toxin effects may spread from the injection area and cause symptoms including swallowing or breathing difficulties, which can be life-threatening. Do not use Xeomin if you have an infection at the planned injection site or a known allergy to a botulinum toxin product or Xeomin ingredients. Tell your provider about pregnancy or breastfeeding, neuromuscular conditions, all medicines and supplements, prior facial procedures, and any history of eyelid or brow drooping. Seek urgent medical help for problems with swallowing, speaking or breathing, or generalized muscle weakness after treatment.
Choosing the right option
A consultation is the right place to compare Xeomin with other approaches and determine whether it is appropriate for your goals. This article is for education only and does not replace medical advice, diagnosis or an in-person assessment.
